HAA VISIT TO THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN MEMORIAL FLIGHT,
CONINGSBY, LINCOLNSHIRE
Thursday 26th January 2012
ONLY 20 PLACES – FIRST COME FIRST SERVED – RESPOND NOW!
Perhaps the most eagerly awaited visit of recent times. HAA members and guests are invited to take a look behind the scenes at the winter maintenance of the BBMF’s Lancaster, DC-3, Spitfires and Hurricanes at their base; RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire.
What a way to start the New Year! The work of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is of course legendary and their commitment to the highest levels of maintenance, serviceability and safety, remains the mark by which many of us judge our own activities. We will be guests of Squadron Leader Ian Smith, OC BBMF for a day-long visit which will allow close-up access to the work in progress and a chance to meet with some of his team.
All visitors should aim to be on site for 10.30am, for morning coffee before a tour of the hangar and aircraft. A buffet lunch will be provided. To cover the cost of the lunch, plus shared a donation to HAA funds and to Lincolnshire’s Lancaster Association, a Registered Charity supporting the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, a charge of £10 per HAA member and £15 per (non-member) guest will be made for the visit.
A number of attendees may be interested in staying overnight on Wednesday 25th at the nearby Petwood Hotel at Woodhall Spa, the former officers’ mess for members of 617 “Dambuster” Squadron. If sufficient people are interested in this, we may be able to negotiate a special rate for dinner, bed and breakfast.
PLACES ARE STRICTLY LIMITED and will be offered in strict order of receipt to members and one guest per member. Please give your full name and mobile number, if possible, as it appears on the HAA membership register. Those who are able to attend will be sent further ‘joining instructions’ in due course.
We are also ‘in discussion’ on clearance for members who may wish to fly in.
Please contact Stephen Slater at [email protected], or call or SMS 07967 381884 to register your interest.
