The 2014 Symposium went ‘live’ last week, with a fantastic day’s line up.
We marked the centenary of the Great War, with an in-depth account of the first RFC deployment to France. This was followed by a fascinating description of the re-birth of the last surviving ‘untouched’ WW1 airfield, its history and the ongoing plans which will be of great interest to enthusiasts and historians.
Shuttleworth Cheif Pilot ‘Dodge’ Bailey revealed the challenges and rewards of operating 100 year old aeroplanes.
The programme continued with a presentation of Allied glider operations in the liberation of Europe Paul Beaver an internationally known speaker. Glider and tug pilot veteran Peter Clarke joined Pau in a ’round table’ discussion following this presentation. Delegates were fascinated to hear Peter Clarke’s first-hand accounts of glider training and assault operations including his experiences of going into battle at Arnhem.
It was an outstanding day and has become a major annual event in the historic aircraft enthusiasts calendar.
