Following a successful inaugural meeting of EFLEVA in Prague it was possible to inform many of those involved with UK vintage aviation of the developments at two events on 27th and 28th October 2007.

The first was at the DeHavilland Moth Club symposium at Cambridge last Saturday. Over 100 members and guests were able to see and hear a presentation by Barry Tempest. This had been prepared following his attendance at the Prague meeting on behalf of the HAA. It was well received by those present and quite a number of them decided to join our association immediately. The situation on the vital need to support the new pan-European body in its future efforts to ensure appropriate and effective representation with EASA and Eurocontrol along with the EU commission and parliament was made very clear and I believe it was fully appreciated by those present.

The second opportunity came last Sunday at a meeting of many UK type associations and groups which had been organised by John Broad, an HAA council member and chairman of the Vintage Aircraft Club. It was held in the excellent facility at Oxford Airport where many budding airline pilots undertake their professional licence examinations. After John’s introduction Barry Tempest gave his presentation and this was followed by Roger Hopkinson, the PFA/LAA chairman and the newly elected president of EFLEVA. After the presentations there was much useful discussion as to the way ahead for all the many small vintage aircraft groups in the UK. Once again the need for an organisation like EFLEVA was made crystal clear to those present. The HAA council was well represented at the meeting.
