David Ogilvy is the first recipient of the annual Darrol Stinton trophy, awarded to recognise outstanding individual achievement in the operation and preservation of historic aircraft.
Forever associated with the Shuttleworth Collection, he flew most of the aircraft, but also served for many years as general manager, playing a key role in turning the museum into one of the most significant collections of aircraft in the world. Vastly experienced as a flying instructor, he flew numerous highly exotic and challenging machines, ably recounting his experiences in books and journals.
Sadly, a recent re-location from the south-east prevented David from personally receiving the trophy, and it was received on his behalf by long-time friend and associate George Done.
The trophy is in memory of Darrol Stinton, a founding-figure in the HAA, and is a scale representation of his favourite aeroplane, the Sopwith Camel.
