MEMBERS VISIT TO THE JET AGE COLLECTION, RETRO TRACK AND AIR, GLOUCESTER
Wednesday 18th April 2012. 10.30am-3pm
NOTE THIS IS A NEW DATE AS THE ORIGINAL VISIT SET FOR MARCH WAS POSTPONED
Ahead of the planned opening of the Jet Age Museum at Gloucester, we are invited to look behind the scenes at the restoration projects, both at the museum’s Brockworth workshops and at the adjacent Retro Track and Air facilities.
Projects include a detailed Gloster Gamecock reproduction nearing completion, a Gloster-built Hawker Typhoon, Gloster Gladiator and a display about Sir Frank Whittle and the invention of the jet engine.
Plans, subject to final confirmation, are meeting at Gloucestershire Airport, transfering by road to the Museum’s workshops at Brockworth to view work in progress.
After lunch (and a toast to Britain’s jet engine pioneer Sir Frank Whittle) at the Whittle Inn at Brockworth, we continue to Retro Track and Air, one of the UK’s to look at both their aircraft restoration and Merlin and other interesting engines under rebuild.
Transport can be provided from Gloucestershire Airport for those arriving by air.
Due to the size of the workshops, numbers will be STRICTLY LIMITED for this visit. If you are interested, please contact Steve Slater at the e-mail address below.
