A special ‘heads up’ to all Historic Aircraft Association members and friends was given in September to mark the 40th Anniversary of the first screening of the film ‘Battle of Britain’.
The film-makers massing of almost all the serviceable Spitfires and Hurricanes in the world arguably kickstarted the ‘warbird’ restoration movement in Europe and brought to public attention, the heritage asset that we now all enjoy.
To mark the Anniversary, Peter Wilton arranged a special charity screening of Battle Of Britain for HAA members and guests. It took place at the Vue Cinema, Finchley Road, London at 7pm on Tuesday September 15th.
Tickets cost £6 and all proceeds went to the RAF Benevolent Fund.
While appreciating that a London location was not convenient for some members, the good news was that the Vue Cinema is right next door to Finchley Road underground station and a few hundred metres from West Hampstead Thameslink station.
In any case as one member pointed out, it was well worth making the effort to enjoy massed Merlins on the big screen, not to mention a ten foot high Suzanna York in her skivvies!
A good evening had by all who attended!
