The Historic Aircraft Association is pleased to advise of the current Honorary Aviation Advisors who so kindly offer their services. As an Association we are honoured to have such eminent legal, medical and insurance advice available to the membership through our Honorary Advisors.
You will find the names and contact details of the current professional advisors at the list of Council Members under About Us, Council.
There are no terms of reference for our HAA Honorary Advisors, but clearly they cannot give advice freely in response to all questions. There are boundaries that within their respective professions they cannot cross when asked for advice, and all of us should understand and respect that. All our honorary professionals are obliged to observe certain rules and ethics which sometimes will mean they are unable to give detailed advice in respect of particular cases. In general our advisors will be pleased to give pro-bono advice on matters of policy, process, and interpretation of aviation legal, medical, and insurance issues. However please do not expect them to give detailed advice in respect of individuals who are involved in particular legal cases, have medical-in-confidence issues, or are trying to resolve particular insurance matters. Remember that our Honorary Advisors are obliged to maintain commercial-in-confidence, legal confidentialities, and medical-in-confidence cases and ought not to be asked questions where these confidences might be breached.
This is not to say that our honorary advisors are not willing to help. Nor are they looking for fees nor to increase their income when helping members with general policy and regulatory matters. I would just ask that you not be offended nor too disappointed if our honorary advisors are ethically unable to provide all the answers you would like when seeking their assistance. To use my favourite mantra “Never ask a question to which you do not wish to receive a ‘no’ answer, or an invoice”.
